Xu Ang and the Xuanming calendar
The Xuanming calendar was made by Xu Ang, promulgated in 822 CE and used until 892 — seventy years, the longest use of any Tang calendar.
Xu also refined the computation of eclipses and the equation of time.
To Japan
The Xuanming calendar reached Japan, where it was adopted in 861; as the “Senmyō-reki” it remained in use into the early Edo period, some eight hundred years.
A Tang calendar used in a neighboring land for more than eight centuries is a landmark in Sino-Japanese exchange and a measure of the reach of Tang calendrical work.
