Development
The Daxiang calendar was made by Feng Xian of the Northern Zhou and promulgated in 579 CE. After the Zhou fell, the early Sui (581–583) still used it, until the Kaihuang calendar came in 584.
A calendar spanning two dynasties is common at a change of regime: a new house first takes over the old calendar and only later makes its own.
Significance
Though short-lived, it was the link between northern calendars and the calendar of the Sui.
