The work
The Liao shi was compiled under Toqto’a of the Yuan. Liao documents were badly lost, and its treatises were largely assembled from Song accounts and Liao fragments — hence their brevity.
The treatise
It joins calendar and phenomena in one chapter and records the calendar used under the Liao.
The Liao inherited Tang and Five Dynasties practice and was also touched by the Song; its calendar forms a line of its own, and this treatise is its chief record.
