Chujia Kuang (邝楚嘉), pen-name Jiayan-Yide (嘉言一得). Independent researcher based in Jieyang, Guangdong, China. Lecturer at the China World National Culture Promotion Society (中国世界民族文化交流促进会).
Since 1996 I have studied traditional Chinese calendrics: the astronomical computation of the 24 solar terms, the debate over the sexagenary-year boundary, and the correspondence between calendrical time, season and orientation. My open-access datasets and preprints are hosted on Zenodo.
Scope: this site publishes only documentary and astronomical records of the calendar, and historical-document research.

The site follows one line of work: the traditional calendar and its solar terms. First, how a solar term is fixed — at what degree of solar longitude the sun’s position counts as the term, and why the date shifts by a day or two from year to year. Second, when the sexagenary year turns: at Lichun, or at the first day of the first month — and where the two competing conventions come from. Third, how direction and season are made to answer to each other: what work belongs to which season, and whether the old sayings hold up. The writing is plain, and the aim is to make the reasoning clear. If something does not come clear at a first reading, read it again in your own time. There is no hurry; the days are long.
